CALL FOR ENTRIES
Open Juried Show: Still Life
February 19 – March 15, 2012
Reception: February 19, 2012 1 pm – 4 pm
Awards presented: 2 pm
Eligibility:
Open to all artists in New England. Work must have been completed within
the last three years and may not have been done in a class or under a
teacher’s supervision. Original work only. Work may not have been accepted
in any previous Rhode Island Watercolor Society juried show.
Media:
2-D & Water-soluble media only: which include watercolor, acrylic, casein,
gouache and egg tempera on paper. Canvas is not accepted. No diptychs or
triptychs. No digital art, photography or collage work. Work must be properly
framed with wood or metal, under glass and wired for hanging. Work larger than
22” by 28” (this is the glass size, not painting image size) must be framed with
Plexiglass. No painting may be larger than 42” on longest dimension, including
frame. Please have your name, address and phone number on the back of each painting. A
business card is perfect for this. Work not meeting these criteria will not be hung.
Entry:
Deadline is Sunday, February 12. Non-refundable entry fee: Members
$14.00 per work or 3 for $35.00; Non-members $18.00 per entry or 3 for
$45.00 (Limit of three works per artist.)
Juror:
Nancy Gaucher Thomas, NWS – (National Watercolor Society) Nancy teaches
watercolor painting, including on-location workshops. She has served as juror
of selection and awards for many organizations including the Naval War
College Museum, Newport, RI, Providence Art Club, the National Association of
Women Artists in New York. Her paintings have garnered numerous awards in
juried exhibitions from across the country and hang in public and private collections
in the U.S. and abroad. She maintains a studio in East Greenwich,
Rhode Island.
Awards:
First Prize $100, Second Prize $75, and Third Prize $50 plus Honorable
Mentions.
Sales:
All work must be for sale. All sales will be subject to RIWS commission
of 25% for members; 35% for non-members.
Artist Membership:
Beginning in 2007, any artist who is accepted into 3 open juried shows within 5
years sponsored by the Rhode Island Watercolor Society is eligible to apply
for Artist Membership. Acceptance into Still Life qualifies, as one of the 3
shows needed.
Delivery:
Hand delivered only; entries may be delivered to RIWS - Feb. 7 – 12, 2012
during gallery hours (Tues-Sat, 10-4; Sunday, 1-5). Work will be juried on Monday, February 13.
Pickup:
You may check online on Thursday, Feb. 14 or call the gallery on Feb. 14, between 10am - 4pm to ask if your work was accepted. Works not accepted
must be picked up Feb. 14 - 19 during gallery hours. Accepted work must be
picked up on Friday, March 16 & Sat, March 17 from 10 am – 4 pm. NOTE:
There will be a $5 charge per painting for accepted work not picked up by
5 pm on Sunday, Feb. 19 unless you contact us if there is a problem. Please
make arrangements with someone to pick up your work if you cannot.
Liability:
The Rhode Island Watercolor Society cannot be responsible for any loss or
damage, although every possible care will be taken in handling.
